The gorgeous, original details of this couple’s 18th century New England home remains throughout the house, but the kitchen was stuck in the 80’s when it was last remodeled. The first order of business was to open-up the stairway to add interest to the room and somehow incorporate and old, brick chimney into the design. We started with a long, rectangular island with cabinetry in a rich, Colonial blue. We extended the sink wall cabinetry down past the chimney allowing forpantry storage with the fridge anchoring the run. We kept part of the chimney exposed which adds yet another layer to the space. The reclaimed wood shelves with iron brackets complete the look of a modern, rustic kitchen with plenty of space for a large family that loves to gather and entertain.
